“On behalf of the B.C. New Democrat Caucus, we send best wishes to the people of Indian heritage as they celebrate India Republic Day on January 26, and India’s continuing legacy as the world’s largest democracy.

India Republic Day celebrates India’s adoption of its own constitution. The constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, and is celebrated as the final act in the nation’s full journey  to independence.

“India’s progress after independence is an inspiration and a triumph to be proud of by all Indians wherever they reside. This day truly celebrates a nation that has endured and found a common identity for all its citizens.

“The New Democrats also send greetings to all of those who are celebrating India Republic Day in Canada, and those Canadians, of Indian descent in British Columbia, who have played an important role in building our great province.

“Happy India Republic day.”
