NEW DEMOCRATS URGE CHRISTY CLARK TO DISCLOSE BONUS PENSION AGREEMENTS FOR B.C. FERRIES EXECUTIVES

VANCOUVER –New Democrat leader Adrian Dix and MLA Gary Coons are urging Premier Christy Clark to disclose, as part of her commitment to open government, the bonus pension agreements for B.C. Ferries executives, and the consultants’ report that guided the board of directors.

Ms Clark’s open data portal does not provide access to these reports or agreement.

Disclosing the agreements will allow the official opposition and others to test the Premier’s claim that a review of Hahn and other executives’ supplementary pension agreements is not possible. The information will also shed light on what factors the board felt were relevant in determining supplementary bonuses.

The timing of when the Board agreed to the bonus pension agreements also raises questions about how it has structured performance pay scheme for B.C. Ferries executives. Media reports note that one agreement came into force April 1, 2006, days after a major fleet accident involving the Queen of the North.

Attached is a copy of the letter sent from Dix and Coons to the premier.
