Statement from NDP leader Adrian Dix on the passing of Mayor Art Phillips and Premier Ralph Klein

VANCOUVER – New Democrat leader Adrian Dix issued the following statement on the passing of former Vancouver Mayor Art Phillips and Alberta Premier Ralph Klein.

“Today we say good bye to two iconic figures in Western Canada – former Vancouver Mayor Art Phillips and Alberta Premier Ralph Klein.

“Both accomplished a great deal In public life, making a lasting impact with their respective contributions. Mayor Phillips was instrumental in making areas such as Granville Island and False Creek what they are today. The approach to urban planning he introduced put Vancouver on a path towards becoming a more liveable, vibrant and sustainable city.

“Premier Klein’s commitment to his province helped secure Alberta's position as a dominant political and economic force in Canada.

“On behalf of the New Democrat official opposition, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to both Premier Klein’s and Mayor Phillips’ spouses, Colleen Klein and Carole Taylor – our former colleague in the provincial legislature – and their children and friends.”
