VICTORIA – Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson will return to the role of spokesperson for energy and mines, announced New Democrat leader John Horgan.

“Doug Donaldson has been a strong voice for the North in the B.C. legislature since 2009, and he has been a passionate advocate for vulnerable children in B.C.,” said Horgan.

“He has represented northern and rural B.C. well, and understands the importance of the resource extraction and processing that contributes so much to this province’s economy. Doug has always stood up for the rural economy in our caucus, and I am very pleased he will be able to focus his efforts on this vital portfolio again.”

In addition to his role as spokesperson for children and family development in recent years, Donaldson has also been the deputy spokesperson for mining. He previously served as the Opposition spokesperson for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, energy and mines, and has served on the Select Standing Committee on Finance.

Horgan also announced Vancouver-Mount Pleasant MLA Melanie Mark is taking over as New Democrat spokesperson for children and family development.
