Local MLA Leonard welcomes arts funding to benefit people in the Comox Valley

COURTENAY – New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard is welcoming over $76,000 through the province’s BC Arts Council Grant Program that will benefit art and music lovers in the Comox Valley. The funding will help support the Comox Valley Art Gallery, and Powell River’s PRISMA Festival, attended by many from the region.

“This is great news for our local art gallery and for residents who hop on the ferry to attend PRISMA Festival concerts,” said Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “Investing in the creative sector contributes to the vibrancy of our communities; our government is committed to supporting the arts along the coast and across the province.”

The Comox Valley Art Gallery is receiving $20,000 for a cultural mapping project. PRISMA has been awarded three grants, totaling $56,375, which will go towards operating expenses and the purchase of new instruments. MLA Leonard said this round of grant funding is part of the government’s commitment to doubling investment in the BC Arts Council over four years.

The New Democrat Government is delivering on enhanced opportunities for British Columbians to succeed in their creative careers. The BC Arts Council is the provincial government’s lead agency for arts funding and development.
