BC NDP MLA Anderson says Creston will have stronger notification and evacuation plans during emergencies

CRESTON – BC New Democrat MLA Brittny Anderson says provincial funding for local evacuation planning projects means Creston will be better able to keep people safe when emergencies occur.

“People in Creston know that emergency preparedness starts long before an evacuation alert or order is issued,” said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Kootenay Central. “This investment will support local planning and preparedness efforts, helping strengthen community resilience and keep people safe during emergencies.

Creston is receiving $40,000 for evacuation route planning to strengthen evacuation decision-making, and a tabletop exercise to validate the plan.

More than $1.28 million in funding is being distributed to support 36 communities around B.C. through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF). The CEPF helps local governments and First Nations prepare for disasters and reduce risks from natural hazards in a changing climate

Since the program’s launch in 2017, approximately $351 million has been provided to communities, supporting approximately 2,800 projects.
