BC NDP MLA Beare says Katzie First Nation will have stronger notification and evacuation plans during emergencies

KATZIE FIRST NATION – BC New Democrat MLA Lisa Beare says provincial funding for local evacuation planning projects means Katzie First Nation will be better able to keep people safe and informed when emergencies occur.

“Evacuation planning is essential for every community across B.C.” said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. “This funding will help leaders at Katzie First Nation to create a plan that meets the needs of their community.”

Katzie First Nation is receiving $35,000 for an evacuation route plan to protect the community.

More than $1.28 million in funding is being distributed to support 36 communities around B.C. through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF). The CEPF helps local governments and First Nations prepare for disasters and reduce risks from natural hazards in a changing climate

Since the program’s launch in 2017, approximately $351 million has been provided to communities, supporting approximately 2,800 projects.
