BC NDP MLA Brittny Anderson says funding will help make events happen in Central Kootenay this summer

NELSON – BC New Democrat MLA Brittny Anderson says that a provincial grant will support upcoming local events, including the Shambhala Music Festival.

“The Kootenays are home to world-class events that bring in people from near and far, year after year – but with global inflation causing increased costs, it is getting harder to make these events happen,” said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Kootenay Central. “That’s why we are providing funding to help these events continue, and I’m looking forward to seeing these events in turn provide benefits for our local tourism businesses.”

The following local events are receiving funding from the provincial government’s Destination Events Program:

  • Shambhala Music Festival (July 2026) – $120,000
  • Trans BC Enduro Race (September 2026) – $38,000
  • Starbelly Jam Music Festival (July 2026) – $19,000
  • Nelson International Mural Festival (August 2026) – $14,000

The BC New Democrat government is committed to supporting events that draw visitors into communities, contribute to local economies, and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
