NEW WESTMINSTER– BC NDP MLA Jennifer Whiteside says grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in New Westminster.
“Sports connect our community and encourage a healthy lifestyle,” says Jennifer Whiteside, MLA for New Westminster. ”I am thrilled that amazing organizations like the British Columbia Deaf Sports Federation are receiving funding so they can continue and expand their services.”
Over $357,000 in funding for eight organizations in New Westminster is part of the $25 million in Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.
Some of the organizations receiving funding in New Westminster include:
- $70,000 for New Westminster Minor Hockey Association
- $76,000 for British Columbia Deaf Sports Federation
- $80,000 for Hyack Swim Club
The Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
