NANAIMO – BC NDP MLA Sheila Malcolmson says that people in Nanaimo will benefit from funding that will help make the community more climate-friendly and resilient.
“The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre brings people of all ages and abilities together to enjoy swimming lessons, fitness classes, and social activities. That’s why we’re funding over $2.8 million for upgrades to the Aquatic Centre that will make it more comfortable and climate-friendly.”
The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is benefiting from $2.8 million in funding from the provincial government, in addition to over $1 million from the Government of Canada, and $1.4 million from the Regional District of Nanaimo The project will upgrade HVAC equipment including installing an air-source heat pump.
Across the province, communities will benefit from more energy-efficient buildings, improved clean energy production, and better access to clean energy transportation as part of a joint investment of more than $114 million from the federal and provincial governments and local partners.
Since 2017, the BC NDP government has taken action to address the climate crisis and create innovative opportunities for local communities. Unlike others who continue to deny the impact that climate change is having on communities, by investing in clean energy projects, our government is working to build a more climate-friendly and affordable future for British Columbians.
