COWICHAN VALLEY – BC NDP MLA Debra Toporowski says people living in Duncan and on Ruxton Island will have better access to essential community services, thanks to funding for capital projects that help not-for-profit organizations improve and expand their facilities and programs.
“Non-profit organizations that help people in our community are part of what makes our region so special,” said Debra Toporowski, MLA for Cowichan Valley. “That’s why we’re supporting them so they can afford improvements and upgrades that will make these community programs safer and better for the people that need them.”
The following grants were awarded to support capital projects in the Cowichan Valley and surrounding Islands:
- Vancouver Island Providence Community Association (Duncan) – $125,000 for essential repairs and upgrades to the organization’s facilities, including roof and gutter replacement, exterior painting, and electrical improvements, to ensure safety, compliance, and the longevity of infrastructure supporting therapeutic programs for the community.
- Ruxton Island Property Owners Association – $13,017 for Public Safety Building for Fire Program Equipment – Phase 2: Metal Roof, Exterior & Interior Finishing.
Across BC, 54 capital projects are receiving a total of $5 million through the Community Gaming Grants program. The grants allow non-profit organizations to acquire essential equipment or undertake renovations.
These grants are part of the work your BC NDP government is doing to ensure British Columbians have access to programs and services that improve their quality of life, support local needs, and build vibrant communities.
