MISSION– BC NDP MLAs Pam Alexis and Bob D’Eith say grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Mission.
“Supporting grassroots sports organizations enriches neighbourhoods and promotes physical and mental well-being for people of all ages,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission. “By supporting local sports organizations in Abbotsford, Mission, and across the province, we’re helping bring communities together over a shared love of sport.”
Nearly $120,000 in funding for six organizations in Mission are part of the $25 million in Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.
Organizations receiving funding in Mission are:
- Mission Figure Skating Club Society- $28,000
- Mission Minor Lacrosse Club- $23,500
- Mission Soccer Club- $25,000
- Mission Minor Baseball (1990) Association- $21,500
- Mission Marlins Swim Club- $18,750
- Mission Golf and Country Club- $3,100
“Investing in community sports organizations fosters healthier, happier communities,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission. “Whether you’re an athlete or a spectator, everyone in B.C. benefits when we help boost local sports.”
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
