NANAIMO – BC New Democrat MLAs George Anderson and Sheila Malcolmson says that a provincial grant will support upcoming local events, including the Nanaimo Fringe Festival and Vancouver Island Exhibition.

“Our events help bring Nanaimo to life,” said George Anderson, MLA for Nanaimo-Lantzville. “This funding means that some of our favourite annual events are supported to run another year, while strengthening local businesses, tourism, and vibrancy.”

Local events receiving funding from the provincial government’s Destination Events Program include:

  • Vancouver Island Exhibition-Agricultural Fair, 2026 – $24,000
  • Nanaimo Fringe Festival, 2026 – $21,000
  • Nanaimo Blues Festival, 2026 – $14,000

“With this funding, some of Nanaimo’s most anticipated events can have support to run this year,” said Sheila Malcolmson, MLA for Nanaimo-Gabriola. “These events, the Vancouver Island Exhibition-Agricultural Fair, Fringe Festival, and Blues Festival, help us showcase some of the culture we’re so proud of here in Nanaimo.”

The BC New Democrat government is committed to supporting events that draw visitors into communities, contribute to local economies, and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
