GABRIOLA ISLAND – BC NDP MLAs Sheila Malcolmson and Doug Routley celebrated the opening of the Lund Gathering Place on the weekend, where people on Gabriola Island will be able to gather, work, and play.

“People on Gabriola love to gather and enjoy the beautiful place they call home,” said Doug Routley, MLA for Nanaimo-North Cowichan. “The Lund Gathering Place will be a space for locals and visitors to enjoy for years to come, thanks to provincial and federal funding that helped make this project happen.”

The Lund Gathering Place, named in honour of community leader Gail Lund, offers a versatile covered outdoor space for concerts, theatre, picnics, sports, lectures, markets, food trucks, outdoor cinema, and various other events, ensuring continued community engagement and resilience.

“Gabriola’s Community Hall is the heart of so much culture and celebration,” said Sheila Malcolmson, MLA for Nanaimo. “That’s why our BC government funded over $50,000 to create this gathering space and tribute to Gail Lund, a beloved member of our community.”

This project is made possible through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure stream (CVRIS). Joint federal and provincial funding through the CVRIS will support culture and recreational endeavors for the Gabriola Island community, for which the provincial government has provided $50,831 and the federal government $203,324.
