BC NDP MLAs Parmar and Dean say grants will support local sports in the Westshore

LANGFORD – BC NDP MLAs Ravi Parmar and Mitzi Dean say grants for local not-for-profits will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in the Westshore region.

“Sports are a great equalizer, bringing community together and giving everyone the chance to participate,” said Ravi Parmar, MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca. “This funding empowers not-for-profit sports organizations to help people from all walks of life stay active and engaged.”

$518,600 in funding for 15 organizations in the region is part of the $25 million in Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

Organizations receiving funding in the Westshore region include:

  • $110,000 – Juan de Fuca Soccer Association
  • $32,500 – Greater Victoria Minor Football Association
  • $11,000 – West Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Club
  • $7,000 – Victoria Senior B Shamrocks Lacrosse Society
  • $74,500 – Capital Region Female Minor Hockey Association
  • $12,500 – Victoria-Esquimalt Lacrosse Association
  • $10,000 – Tripleshot Cycling Club
  • $4,700 – View Royal Fastball Association

“Thanks to the work of local organizations, people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds have an opportunity to come together and engage in sport,” said Mitzi Dean, MLA for Esquimalt-Metchosin. “They continually go above and beyond to keep our bodies and minds active, and I’m grateful that we’re able to continue supporting their work.”

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
