RICHMOND – BC NDP MLAs Kelly Greene, Aman Singh and Henry Yao say grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Richmond.
“Our local sports organizations teach people resiliency, teamwork, and courage,” says Kelly Greene, MLA for Richmond-Steveston. “With this funding, organizations like the Air Attack Volleyball Club can continue their outstanding work with youth.”
Over $928,000 in funding for 18 organizations in Richmond is part of the $25 million in Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.
“Sports enrich the lives of our community members, they are a great way for people to make lifelong friends and stay active,” says Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough. “I am so excited that we are supporting organizations like the B.C. Senior Games Society with funding!”
Some of the organizations receiving funding in Richmond include:
- $175,000 for Richmond Jets Minor Hockey Association
- $42,500 for Richmond Air Attack Volleyball Club
- $85,000 for Richmond Rapids Swim Club
“I am thrilled that sports organizations in Richmond are receiving funding,” says Henry Yao, MLA for Richmond South Centre. “These not-for-profit teams and clubs contribute greatly to our vibrant community! Sports invite people to connect with one another, keep up a healthy lifestyle, and improve mental health by fostering resilience and bravery.”
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
