BC New Democrats and BC Greens finalize agreement

VICTORIA – The BC NDP and Green caucuses have reached a final agreement on how they will work together on their shared priorities and deliver a strong and stable government. The Deputy Premier, NDP Caucus chair, as well as the Leader and House Leader of the Green Caucus signed the final terms of the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord (CARGA) at the B.C. legislature.

The BC New Democrat Government and the BC Green caucus have been working together since the agreement in principle was signed in December 2024. The accord sets out shared policy initiatives and deliverables for 2025 focused on health and mental health care, housing and homelessness, transit, climate and environment, social and economic justice, taxation, as well as democratic and electoral reform. The final agreement also has an additional commitment to consultation on US tariff and trade actions related to these shared initiatives.

As part of this agreement, some of the shared priorities highlighted in 2025 include working together to:

  • Remove barriers to the establishment of community health centres
  • Create tens of thousand of units of affordable non-market housing
  • Expand key transit routes to ensure fares are affordable and rides are reliable
  • End spousal clawbacks on disability payments

As the work is ongoing, the parties will update on specific initiatives and progress publicly.

The agreement can be found here.

“British Columbians voted by a large margin, for a vision of our Province that supports people and services. With the finalization of this agreement, people can expect to see the legislature work together and make progress on the big challenges we are facing. This agreement confirms our commitment to the values of British Columbians, and we look forward to the work ahead with the BC Greens,” said David Eby, Premier and Leader of the BC New Democrats.

“This is an agreement focused on areas of common interest and shared priorities. We are proud of the package of deliverables in the Accord for 2025, and the roadmap for subsequent years. Now is the time for a stable government that delivers a measured response to these turbulent times and puts the people of our province ahead of political manoeuvring. With this agreement, the BC Greens will continue working hard for British Columbians, our economy and our environment,” said Jeremy Valeriote, BC Green Party interim-leader and MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.

“We are excited to get to work under this Accord and make a real difference for people and the environment. This agreement establishes a framework for working together on Green Caucus priorities while keeping our independence to agree or disagree. Unlike the 2017 Confidence and Supply Agreement, this deal gets reviewed and renewed every year, an important accountability measure for both parties,” said Rob Botterell, House Leader and MLA for Saanich North and the Islands.

“This agreement shows we have many shared priorities with the BC Green caucus. We now have a framework for how we will collaborate on delivering results for British Columbians,” said Niki Sharma, Deputy Premier and Attorney General.
