Kevin Falcon opposes Eby’s ICBC rate freeze

Kevin Falcon and the BC Liberals oppose Premier David Eby’s plan to freeze basic ICBC rates for the next two years.

When he was Finance Minister, Falcon increased rates by 11.2% while taking a half a billion dollars from the public car insurance company. In 2020, David Eby introduced a bill to make it illegal to take money from ICBC.

Falcon also opposed ICBC rebates that drivers received during the pandemic and to help deal with the impact of inflation, referring to them as “stupid little cheques.

BC NDP MLA Aman Singh:

“When Kevin Falcon was Finance Minister, he took a half billion dollars from ICBC to fund tax breaks for the wealthiest, and made drivers pay for it through higher premiums. Now he opposes David Eby’s plan to give British Columbians a break when they need it most. Kevin Falcon would make BC more expensive for people, just like he did before.”
