Horgan statement on federal NDP nomination race for Vancouver East

VICTORIA – New Democrat Official Opposition Leader John Horgan made the following statement on the New Democratic Party of Canada’s selection of a new candidate in Vancouver East for the 2015 general election:

“As leader of the B.C. New Democrats, I want to thank Libby Davies for her exemplary work in advancing the cause of social democracy. For 11 years as a city councillor and 17 years as a Member of Parliament, Libby worked tirelessly towards a life of greater dignity, security and justice for ordinary women and men, not just in Vancouver, but across Canada and abroad.

“An opportunity to build on such work and represent the citizens of an iconic federal riding comes only once in a generation. I know there are members of my provincial caucus interested in seeing if they can walk in the footsteps of political representatives like Harold Winch, Margaret Mitchell and Libby Davies, and I wish them well in the upcoming nomination race.”
