NEW WESTMINSTER – New Democrat MLA Judy Darcy is welcoming $588,050 in funding for 16 organizations for arts, culture and sport in New Westminster through the Community Gaming Grants program.
“In New Westminster, art and culture and sport are crucial to the health and well-being of our community,” said Darcy. “This grant funding will ensure more people in New Westminster have the opportunity to participate in activities that will deepen their connection to our great community, and better their lives, be it through sport, music, or theatre.”
Recipients of the community grant funding includes the New Westminster Minor Hockey Association and the Massey Theatre Society.
Over 700 not-for-profit organizations around the province are receiving approximately $18 million to deliver performing arts, literature, heritage and cultural programs for people of all ages.
The Province is also providing approximately $27.5 million to more than 850 sport sector organizations in 2018-19. These programs create opportunities for people who would not otherwise be able to participate and who can benefit from organized, competitive physical activities in their community.
The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in British Columbia each year.
