VICTORIA – Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows MLA and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Lisa Beare welcomes the $85,000 grant awarded to the City of Pitt Meadows for a flood hazard risk assessment project.
“After 16 years of neglect, I am so proud to be part of a New Democrat government that is taking action on issues that matter to the people of Pitt Meadows,” said Minister Beare.
The $85,000 grant was awarded under the National Disaster Mitigation Program established by the Government of Canada in partnership with the Province of British Columbia. The grant will allow the city to comprehensively assess flooding risks and will provide critical information for emergency preparation and planning.
“Our government is committed to helping communities prepare for these types of disasters,” said Beare. “This grant will provide municipal officials with the information they need to plan ahead and protect our community in the event of flooding.”
Beare expressed her thanks to Emergency Management B.C., the Government of Canada and the City of Pitt Meadows for their work to secure the grant.
“All three levels of government worked together to provide this critical funding for emergency planning and preparedness in our community. It is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when we’re working together to put people first.”
