HAZELTON – New Democrat MLA Doug Donaldson is welcoming $59,000 through the province’s Community Resilience through Arts and Culture Grants to support arts and culture organizations in Stikine.
“These grants will improve access to art resources and play a part in preserving cultural heritage,” said MLA Donaldson. “Getting to know one another, and ourselves, through art, music and culture means this funding will help shape understanding within our diverse communities.”
Recipients in Stikine benefiting from this latest round of grants include:
- Atlin Arts & Music Festival, $10,000
- Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society, $10,000
- Gitanyow Huwilp Society, $15,000
- Gitsegulka Elementary School, $3,500
- Klappan Independent Day School, $10,000
- Misty Rivers Community Arts Council, $8,000

The Community Resilience Through Arts and Culture program funds projects that use the restorative power of art and culture to inspire community engagement and to bring healing in response to environmental, social and economic hardships. Now in its second year, the program is distributing 83 grants to communities across the province.
MLA Donaldson said the New Democrat government is committed to enhancing opportunities for British Columbians to succeed in their creative careers, to supporting cultural revitalization and healing within Indigenous communities, and to increasing equity and access so that all people in British Columbia can participate in the arts and celebrate culture.
