SURREY – Finding quality child care will soon be a little easier for parents in Surrey. New Democrat MLA Harry Bains is welcoming 314 new licensed child care spaces at 13 different facilities across the city.
“Families in Surrey have struggled for far too long to find affordable, quality child care,” said MLA Bains. “Through the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund we’re delivering much needed relief to families by saving them money, and opening up opportunities to return to work.”
Funding for the new spaces is being provided by the Province through the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund. Child care providers can apply to the fund to create new child care spaces at any time throughout the year under a continuous application process.
Today MLA Bains toured Kidzville Learning Center, and met with parents and staff. Kidzville Learning Center hosts monthly parent education nights and have a large resource library for families to borrow child development books from. They provide healthy snacks and bring instructors in to teach kids different activities such as yoga and dance.
Kidzville Learning Center has received funding to create 56 new spaces at a new site.
MLA Bains said that the BC New Democrat government is committed to delivering increased access to affordable, high-quality child care where and when families need it. Since July 2018, the Province has funded over 10,000 new licensed child care spaces through Childcare BC.
