PRINCE RUPERT – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice is welcoming $31,000 through the province’s Community Resilience through Arts and Culture Grants to support arts and culture organizations in the North Coast.
“Supporting traditional artistry and creating space for healing is an important part of building resiliency in North Coast communities, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous” said MLA Rice. “This investment in the creative sector will enable communities to reach deeper understanding of our shared relationships and histories.”
Recipients in the North Coast benefiting from this latest round of grants include:
- Old Masset Village Council (OMVC), OMVC Haida Health Centre (HHC), $10,000
- Qqs (Eyes) Projects Society, $10,000
- Skidegate Band Council, $9,500
- Edge of the World Music Festival Society, $1,500
The Community Resilience Through Arts and Culture program funds projects that use the restorative power of art and culture to inspire community engagement and to bring healing in response to environmental, social and economic hardships. Now in its second year, the program is distributing 83 grants to communities across the province.
MLA Rice said the New Democrat government is committed to enhancing opportunities for British Columbians to succeed in their creative careers, to supporting cultural revitalization and healing within Indigenous communities, and to increasing equity and access so that all people in British Columbia can participate in the arts and celebrate culture.
