POWELL RIVER- New Democrat MLA Nicholas Simons is welcoming $88,660 in capital project funding for two community organizations in Powell River. One $71,660 grant will go to the Inclusion Powell River Society and will support the purchase of three new wheelchair accessible vans. Another $17,000 grant will go to the Powell River Curling Club to support facility renovations. These community organizations are two of 63 benefitting from the capital project grant, which funds upgrades to community facilities, infrastructure, and equipment.
“These organizations play an important role in bringing people together and making Powell River even more safe, fun, and inclusive for everyone,” said Simons. “This funding will help them serve our community even better.”
In 2019-20, the Province is providing $5 million in capital project grants for organizations to buy and upgrade community facilities, infrastructure and equipment.
The capital projects program is part of the annual $140 million Community Gaming Grants program supporting about 5,000 community organizations that deliver arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services, and parent advisory councils.
