MLA Josie Osborne welcomes faster internet for residents in Mid Island-Pacific Rim

SPROAT LAKE – New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne is welcoming a $3.8 million provincial investment that will connect more households to high-speed broadband in ten communities on and around Vancouver Island, including Sproat Lake.

“People everywhere deserve to have access to reliable, high-speed internet to help them succeed,” said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “Expanding high-speed internet to communities like Sproat Lake near Port Alberni helps close connectivity gaps and ensure British Columbians in more remote areas also have access to the same digital services and opportunities that people in nearby urban centres enjoy.”

These projects will connect over 1800 households to broadband, unlocking better, faster, and more reliable access to digital services and opportunities. Residents of these rural communities can count on better online access to jobs, education, training, virtual healthcare, and more.

This provincial investment comes from the Connecting British Columbia Fund, in addition to $3.3 million from the Federal Government, and nearly $4 million in other funding. Other funding partners include Telus Communications Inc. and CityWest Cable & Telephone Corp.
