STEWART – New Democrat MLA Nathan Cullen says that people in the Stewart area will be safer during future flooding events thanks to the completion of a flood and erosion planning project.

“We have seen the devastating effects of flooding as we see the impacts of climate change. By investing in mitigation efforts today, we’re taking action to prepare for tomorrow,” said Nathan Cullen, MLA for Stikine. “Our government’s support for the District of Stewart’s flood and erosion planning will help preserve critical infrastructure.”

The District of Stewart received $85,000 in funding for a Bear River flood and erosion planning project. The project will help to plan to address needs to best protect critical infrastructure within the District of Stewart during flood situations, keeping people safer if and when they need to travel within the District during and after flooding.

Across the province, a total of 24 flood mitigation projects have been recently completed to make people and communities safer. The projects were supported by more than $10.8 million in funding, cost-shared by the provincial and federal governments.
