BELLA COOLA – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice says that funding to restore a historic trail in Bella Coola will help strengthen the local economy and create jobs for people.
“This project will not only create employment for people during construction, it will also drive more economic activity in the Bella Coola Valley,” said Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast. “I’m glad the Nuxalk will be getting this much needed boost to increase opportunities for tourism, recreation and small businesses in their traditional territory.”
The Nuxalk Nation is receiving $879,688 in provincial funding towards re-establishing the Bella Coola/Kimsquit Ooligan Grease Trail. This trail has significant historic value, and its rebuilding will support economic recovery in the community through tourism, guide outfitting, and small businesses supplying traditional foods to regional and international markets.
In total, the BC New Democrat government is providing more than $5 million to Indigenous organizations and local governments through these rural development grants. These grants will benefit eight projects supporting tourism, community revitalization, infrastructure upgrades, and more.
Building resilient communities is a key action of our StrongerBC Economic Plan, helping move British Columbia forward by tackling the challenges of today while growing an economy that works for everyone.
