New Westminster – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Whiteside says local organizations and parent advisory councils will be able to support young artists and extracurricular activities thanks to over $886,000 in Community Gaming Grants funding. This round of funding is from the Community Gaming Grants program’s arts and culture stream and parent advisory council and district parent advisory council (PAC/DPAC) stream.

“As expenses continue to rise, the challenge of finding affordable activities becomes increasingly daunting,” says Jennifer Whiteside, MLA for New Westminster. “This funding will ensure parents can afford to keep their children engaged in art classes, dance lessons, music and other enriching activities.”

In New Westminster, eight organizations are receiving over $247,000 in funding to support arts and culture, including:

  • New Westminster Symphony Society, $14,500
  • Massey Theatre Society, $75,700
  • Royal City Musical Theatre Society, $34,000
  • Recovery Day Vancouver Society, $49,500
  • Arts Council of New Westminster, $35,000

Additionally, 15 parent advisory councils/district parent advisory councils in New Westminster are receiving over $638,000 in total funding to support extracurricular events, activities and equipment.

More than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture across the province.

More than 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive over $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
