MLAs Coulter and Paddon say expanded BC Transit services will support commuters in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK- BC NDP MLAs Dan Coulter and Kelli Paddon say people who use transit in Chilliwack will see improved service as a result of expanded BC Transit service.

“7-days-a-week service for handyDART in Chilliwack makes our community even more accessible,” said Dan Coulter, MLA for Chilliwack. “Expanding services for people who rely on transit only makes our communities stronger, and I’m glad to see extended week day hours as well as service on Sundays.”

To promote increased ridership and support continued growth in Chilliwack, BC Transit is providing expanded service with support from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. In Chilliwack, this includes handyDART services having extended evening service on weekdays to 6:30 pm as well as adding service on Sundays that aligns with the Saturday service. Additionally, routes 1 and 2 of the Fraser Valley Connector will see weekday peak frequency improvements.

“I have heard from people in our community the importance of this expansion. More handyDART services in our community means more options for people who rely on public transportation to access appointments, and for errands, travel and day to day life,” said Kelli Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent. “These will be welcome changes for Chilliwack and the Central Fraser Valley route.”

This investment in the local transit system ensures that public transit services can continue to offer dependable transportation options for people.

The expanded service in Chilliwack is part of improved transit service in communities across B.C. To support communities and the increased demand for public transit, the Province is committing $298 million for new BC Transit system expansion. BC Transit is expanding systems to shape the growth of communities that will benefit from new routes, more buses and improved service.
