NDP and Green caucus deliver results for British Columbians

VANCOUVER – In the 2024 election a majority voted for a progressive vision of British Columbia.  Half a year in the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord (CARGA) between the BC Green caucus and BC NDP caucus is making progress on British Columbians’ shared priorities.

“We were sent to the Legislature to work together on behalf of British Columbians, and that’s what we’ve been doing with our colleagues in the Green caucus. We built on the important work of government on the housing file that has seen rents dropping for the past 12 months – building even more affordable housing this year. The bottom line is: more homes are available now for people.” said Niki Sharma, Deputy Premier.

CARGA is a framework for cooperation between the two parties on achieving shared policy priorities in areas like housing, climate action, and health.

“Through CARGA, we’ve identified shared priorities with the BC NDP that are delivering tangible improvements in people’s lives,” said interim BC Greens leader Jeremy Valeriote, MLA for West Vancouver–Sea to Sky. “CARGA has helped move forward a number of initiatives for British Columbians, and I’m especially focused on the ongoing work to make health care more accessible across the province.”

By working together constructively both parties look forward to continuing to make progress on our shared goals.  This agreement is unique in Canada, and both parties have been demonstrating that it is possible to have constructive relationships between diverse political parties to advance the interests of British Columbians.

The report released today shows that progress is being made on every item in the CARGA agreement between the BC Green and BC NDP caucus, including in healthcare, on climate, and forestry.

The quarterly reports in CARGA are part of the parties’ shared commitment to strengthening transparency in government. Sharing progress builds trust and invites British Columbians to be a part of that process.
