NDP MLA Aman Singh says manufacturing grants will help local companies adapt and expand

RICHMOND – New Democrat MLA Aman Singh is congratulating two local manufacturers that have been awarded grants to help them scale up, expand, and adapt to the economic changes brought on by the pandemic.

“Small and medium manufacturers create good jobs for people here in our community,” said Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough. “These grants recognize local companies that have put in the work to develop a solid plan to grow. The funding will help them achieve those goals so they can create more opportunities for people in Richmond.”

Megatech Distribution and Arctic Pearl Fishing were two local recipients of the StrongerBC Accelerating Manufacturing Grants, which saw $10 million distributed to 43 small and medium-sized manufacturers across the province to support innovation and create new family-supporting jobs. Recipients represent a wide range of sectors including technology, food processing, shipbuilding, aerospace, and forestry.

The grants were awarded for projects such as developing or testing new technologies, improving market access or competitiveness, and increasing sustainability in supply chains. Megatech Distribution Inc. received a grant of $114,863 and Arctic Pearl Fishing Ltd. received $250,000.

The grant is a part of StrongerBC: BC’s Economic Recovery Plan. The plan outlines how the BC New Democrat government is helping people, businesses, and communities to come out of COVID-19 stronger and better prepared.
