NORTH VANCOUVER – New Democrat MLA Bowinn Ma is recognizing Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre for their work supporting crime prevention and community safety, with a focus on transformative Indigenous-led approaches.
“It’s inspiring to know how hard people are working, in our communities and across B.C., to create a safer province for everyone,” said Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “I want to congratulate Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre for receiving the Youth Leadership Award. I’m so appreciative of the work they do to provide young adults with culturally safe and supportive services.”
The awards acknowledge individuals, non-profit organizations and justice and community partners for their work in advancing crime prevention, restorative justice, support for vulnerable people and other initiatives that keep our communities safer. These efforts support provincial initiatives in crime prevention, victim services and policing.
The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Award for Youth Leadership was presented to Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre, Prince George. Other recipients of the award were:
- Shawn Bayes, Vancouver, CEO, Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver
- Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness, Victoria
- Lovepreet Brar, Surrey, Family Liaison Victim Services Manager, RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team
- Mary Brown, Heiltsuk Nation, Program Director, Heiltsuk Gvi’las Restorative Justice Program
