NDP MLA Jennifer Rice says grant for new equipment will enhance gymnastics program in Prince Rupert

PRINCE RUPERT – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice says that a capital grant from the Community Gaming Grants program will allow the Prince Rupert Gymnastics Association to purchase enhanced equipment to deliver more accessible programs to people of all ages and abilities.

“As they settle into their beautiful new facility, this new equipment will allow the association to expand their programs to serve more people of all ages and abilities,” said Rice, the MLA for North Coast. “Indoor sports help people stay active and healthy all year round, and I’m grateful that Prince Rupert has such a supportive and accessible gymnastics community.”

The PRGA received a grant of $93,236 this year to purchase new equipment, including an air pit system, specialized equipment to expand the male gymnastics program, and bars and other equipment that will support accessibility for people of varying abilities.

This past December the organization celebrated their move into a new, larger space, which was supported by a capital grant of $89,187 as part of the previous funding cycle.

This year, the Capital Grants stream is providing over $5 million to 45 not-for-profits and other community organizations across British Columbia. The grants help groups to upgrade or expand infrastructure that allows them to continue serving people or meet growing demand.

This funding stream is part of the annual $140-million Community Gaming Grants program which supports about 5,000 community organizations that deliver arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services, and parent advisory councils
