TOFINO – New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne is welcoming 35 new affordable rental homes in Tofino for people with low-to-moderate incomes.
Provided by the Building BC: Community Housing Fund, these new affordable rental homes are part of 16 new projects, which will provide a total of 634 new homes across the province.
“Rising housing costs have made it difficult for people in our community to get ahead. I’m proud to be a part of a strong NDP government committed to tackling the housing crisis, said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “These new homes represent much needed rental stock and will provide families, independent seniors and people with disabilities an affordable place to live.”
The project will create 35 new homes in partnership with Catalyst Community Developments Society and Tofino Housing Corporation. Construction is expected to start April 2021.
The Community Housing Fund supports mixed-income buildings. These projects have 50% of units for households with incomes up to $64,000, 30% of units for households with incomes up to approximately $74,000, and 20% of units for households with very low incomes (including those on income or disability assistance).
The Community Housing Fund is part of the BC NDP government’s 10-year $7-billion housing plan. New Democrats are working in partnership to build 114,000 affordable homes that cover the full spectrum of housing needs for British Columbians by 2028.
