CASTLEGAR – New Democrat MLA Katrine Conroy says local organizations will be able to protect local ecosystems and keep people safe thanks to $315,000 from the Community Gaming Grants program for environmental and public safety initiatives.
“Here in the Kootenays we have incredible opportunities to explore the outdoors, and I’m so grateful to our search and rescue teams for the work they do to keep people safe,” said Katrine Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West. “Funding for these groups gives people peace of mind as they go out and venture into our great outdoors knowing that if they need help, it will be available.”
In Kootenay West, the following community organizations are receiving funding for public safety work, which can include restorative justice, firefighting, search and rescue, emergency preparedness and community safety.
- Castlegar Society for Search & Rescue- $100,000
- South Columbia Search and Rescue Society- $176,500
- Slocan and District Technical Rescue Society- $7,000
The following local organization is receiving funding for environmental initiatives, such as animal protection, conservation and environmental awareness programs:
- Arrow Lakes Caribou Society- $31,500
