VANCOUVER – New Democrat MLA Melanie Mark says that Capital Grants through the Community Gaming Grants (CGG) program will help two local organizations deliver better services in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant.

“I know how hard non-profits in my community have worked since the beginning of the pandemic to adapt and provide the services people count on,” said Melanie Mark, MLA for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant. “COVID has highlighted how valuable community services are for people and our government will continue to support local service providers as we work together to build healthier communities for everyone.”

The Capital Grants stream of the CGG supports not-for-profits and other community organizations to purchase, build, upgrade, or expand infrastructure that allows them to continue providing services or meet growing demand. In Vancouver-Mount Pleasant, the Seniors Services Society of BC received $21,000 for temporary housing bed replacement and KidSafe Project Society received $64,645 to purchase a passenger van to meet increased demand and safety requirements during COVID.

The Capital Grants stream is providing over $5 million to 45 organizations across British Columbia for the 2021/22 fiscal year.

The capital projects program is part of the annual $140-million Community Gaming Grants program supporting about 5,000 community organizations that deliver arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services, and parent advisory councils
