NDP MLA Ravi Kahlon says grants will keep people and local environment safe

DELTA – New Democrat MLA Ravi Kahlon says local organizations will be able to restore local ecosystems thanks to funding from the Community Gaming Grants program for environmental and public safety initiatives.

“Burns Bog is a part of Delta’s identity and must be protected for generations to come” said Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North. “Burns Bog Conservation Society not only helps protect this area, they also offer educational programs to ensure people can continue to enjoy this beautiful place.”

In Delta, Burns Bog Conservation Society, Delta Marine Rescue Society, and DRS Earthwise Society are collectively receiving almost $186,000 in grants for environmental and public safety initiatives. This can include ecosystem conservation, search and rescue, education, and outreach programs.

Over $10.5 million is being distributed through the Environment and Public Safety streams of the Community Gaming Grant program for the 2021/2022 fiscal year. $140 million are distributed annually though Community Gaming Grants to roughly 1,500 community not-for-profit organizations across all streams of the program. These grants help organizations build strong, vibrant communities across B.C.
