GREENWOOD– New Democrat MLA Roly Russell says new joint federal and provincial funding will make improvements to infrastructure that will help to protect people, homes, businesses, roads, and surrounding habitats from flooding. The governments of Canada and B.C. continue to invest in local projects that address the challenges of the climate crisis.
“People in this part of the world are intimately aware of the impacts of flooding, and so it’s welcome news when we can invest in our critical infrastructure to make it even stronger and more resilient. It’s great to see this funding for the Boundary Creek Emergency Dike Repair along with other flood mitigation projects across the province,” said Roly Russell, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen.
The City of Greenwood is receiving $40,950 in joint provincial and federal funding for the Boundary Creek Emergency Dike Repair Project. This funding will be used to help repair a section of an emergency dike constructed on the East side of Boundary Creek which was damaged by a falling tree.
The governments of Canada and British Columbia announced more than $29.5 million in joint funding to reduce and mitigate the risk of floods and slide events in 11 communities across B.C. These projects are in addition to 18 other disaster mitigation related projects that were announced last summer.
The BC New Democrat government is committed to helping communities adapt to climate change and increase their resilience to climate-related events such as flooding and wildfires.
