NDP MLA Russell says supports for vulnerable people will help tackle homelessness in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS – New Democrat MLA Roly Russell says vulnerable people in Grand Forks will have greater access to local services which will help tackle homelessness as the community recovers from the impacts of the pandemic.

“In recent years we’ve seen how people in Grand Forks are there to lift one another up when times are tough,” said Russell, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen. “I’m glad to see the City moving forward with work to support those experiencing homelessness, and look forward to working with the city to continue to tackle this issue and make Grand Forks a kinder, safer, and more welcoming place to live.”

The City of Grand Forks is receiving $200,000 in joint provincial and federal funding to pay for past and ongoing cleanup, hire additional bylaw enforcement staff, and pay for incremental bylaw, security and public works services.

MLA Russell says this investment is part of the Strengthening Communities Program which is providing support to 48 communities across B.C. Over $76 million will support local governments to combat the impacts of homelessness and keep their communities safe and healthy as they recover from the pandemic.

John Horgan and the BC New Democrat government is providing the support people need to build a recovery that leaves no one behind.
