LUMBY – New Democrat MLA Harwinder Sandhu says that Capital Grants through the Community Gaming Grants (CGG) program will help local organizations expand and deliver better services to the North Okanagan.
“We are so fortunate in the North Okanagan to have community organizations taking care of people,” said MLA Sandhu. “The Cherryville Food Bank does such incredible work for people in need, and I’m glad we’re able to support them. And I am incredibly excited that we’re already expanding childcare in Lumby, making sure that families have what they need to thrive.”
The Capital Grants stream of the CGG supports not-for-profits and other community organizations to purchase, build, upgrade, or expand infrastructure that allows them to continue providing services or meet growing demand. In Lumby, the Bridge Educational Society is receiving $250,000 to expand the Early Years Centre to meet local demand. In Cherryville, the Cherryville Community Food Bank Society is receiving $96,000 for an addition to their building to meet growing demand for food banks and their newer services.
The Capital Grants stream is providing over $5 million to 45 organizations across British Columbia for the 2021/22 fiscal year.
The capital projects program is part of the annual $140-million Community Gaming Grants program supporting about 5,000 community organizations that deliver arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services, and parent advisory councils
