COLWOOD – New Democrat MLA Mitzi Dean says that new funding for equipment and training will help local volunteer and part-volunteer fire departments to continue keeping the Westshore safe during fires and other emergencies.
“I am thankful for firefighters across our province who play a critical role in the safety of people and our communities,’ said MLA Mitzi Dean, MLA for Esquimalt-Metchosin. “By funding fire departments throughout our community, our government is ensuring firefighters have the equipment and training needed to keep people safe.”
The following fire departments are receiving funding in the Westshore:
- Colwood – $30,000 for a digital fire training system.
- Metchosin – $30,000 for a hose and equipment replacement project.
The funding is part of over $6.3 million that is being distributed to 114 local governments, First Nations, and volunteer and part-volunteer fire departments around the province.
Since 2017, First Nations and local governments have been approved for more than $111 million through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for more than 1,300 projects that help communities mitigate and prepare for disasters and climate-related emergencies.
