VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA Grace Lore says that people in Victoria will continue to enjoy a diverse and inclusive local arts scene as BC Arts Council grants are awarded to individual artists and arts organizations in the community.

“Arts organizations make our community more vibrant and connected,” said Grace Lore, MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill. “These individual and organizational grants will help ensure our arts scene can continue to thrive and attract artists from diverse backgrounds and experiences”

In Victoria-Beacon Hill, the following individuals and organizations are receiving BC Arts Council grants this year:

  • Tony Adams $11,600
  • Ivonne Hernandez, $6,000
  • Jennifer Landrey, $6,000
  • Addison Mercer, $6,000
  • Planet Earth Poetry Reading Series Society, $10,030
  • Victoria Festival of Authors, $12,000
  • Wonderheads Theatre Society, $12,140

The BC Arts Council is working to build a more diverse and equitable funding structure to support the arts and culture community. Priority was given to equity-deserving organizations and artists as well as to communities outside of the capital region and Greater Vancouver.

This funding includes scholarships, project assistance for performing artists and professional organizations, and arts-based community development. This year, more than 250 individual artists and arts organizations throughout B.C. are benefitting from over $2.7 million in BC Arts Council grant funding.
