CASTLEGAR – New Democrat MLA Katrine Conroy is announcing funding for local libraries, allowing local library users to benefit from modernized technology, enhanced programs and services, and better access to information.
“Generations of people have enjoyed local libraries as a place to learn, grow, and gather,” said Katrine Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West. “Investing in our libraries today ensures that people can continue to count on them into the future.”
The following libraries are receiving funding:
- Castlegar and District Public Library, $196,344.98
- Trail and District Public Library, $170,253.63
- Beaver Valley Public Library, $124,889.36
- Rossland Public Library, $114,182.45
- Nakusp Public Library, $101,461.38
All 71 B.C. public libraries and organizations that help libraries deliver their services will receive one-time grants totalling $45 million in addition to their annual operating funding. This will give libraries flexibility to address local priorities, including longer hours, bigger digital collections and better access to literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.
This funding gives libraries the flexibility to address local priorities while ensuring they are able to meet the evolving needs of their local communities over the coming years.
