NDP MLA says new provincial funding for local libraries in Nelson-Creston will benefit people

NELSON – New Democrat MLA Brittny Anderson is announcing funding for local libraries, allowing library users to benefit from modernized technology, enhanced programs and services, and better access to information.

“Libraries are important places in our community,” said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Nelson-Creston. “This funding will allow our libraries to continue to be a safe spaces focused on diversity and inclusion where all members of the community have equitable access to programs, collections and services.”

In Nelson-Creston, the following libraries are receiving funding:

  • Nelson Municipal Library, $222,876.31
  • Creston Public Library, $185,035.53
  • Salmo Public Library, $101,678.96
  • Kaslo & District Public Library, $96,933.16

All 71 B.C. public libraries and organizations that help libraries deliver their services will receive one-time grants totalling $45 million in addition to their annual operating funding. This will give libraries flexibility to address local priorities, including longer hours, bigger digital collections and better access to literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.

This funding gives libraries the flexibility to address local priorities while ensuring they are able to meet the evolving needs of their local communities over the coming years.
