NDP MLA says supports for vulnerable people will help tackle homelessness in Coquitlam

COQUITLAM – New Democrat MLA Fin Donnelly says vulnerable people in Coquitlam will have greater access to local services which will help tackle homelessness as the community recovers from the impacts of the pandemic.

“The pandemic has placed a tremendous strain on our community, including local government, who have been on the frontlines delivering critical services to people who need them most,” said Fin Donnelly, MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain. “This new funding will help organizations like the Hope for Freedom Society and the Phoenix Society, continue to provide supports and vital services for homeless people in our community.”

Coquitlam is receiving $306,081 in joint provincial and federal funding for the Hope for Freedom Society and the Phoenix Society which will help both organizations hire additional outreach workers and one mental health worker.

MLA Fin Donnelly says this investment is part of the Strengthening Communities Program which is providing support to 48 communities across B.C. Over $76 million will support local governments to combat the impacts of homelessness and keep their communities safe and healthy as they recover from the pandemic.

John Horgan and the BC New Democrat government is providing the support people need to build a recovery that leaves no one behind.
