NORTH VANCOUVER – New Democrat MLA Bowinn Ma says vulnerable people in North Vancouver – Lonsdale will have greater access to local services which will help tackle homelessness as the community recovers from the impacts of the pandemic.
“COVID-19 has highlighted the social-economic inequities that exist within our communities and exacerbated the impacts of the housing crisis,” said Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “The pandemic has been especially difficult on people experiencing homelessness throughout the province, including right here in the North Shore. Our government is pleased to be able to provide funding, which will help the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, and District of West Vancouver address the impacts of homelessness, while we work together to strengthen our community for a stronger, more equitable future.”
North Vancouver is receiving $1,967,479 in joint provincial and federal funding for four projects which will help/support urban Indigenous outreach, mobile outreach services, fixed location services, and coordination, community engagement and training.
MLA Bowinn Ma says this investment is part of the Strengthening Communities Program which is providing support to 48 communities across B.C. Over $76 million will support local governments to combat the impacts of homelessness and keep their communities safe and healthy as they recover from the pandemic.
John Horgan and the BC New Democrat government is providing the support people need to build a recovery that leaves no one behind.
