NDP MLAs Bowinn Ma and Susie chant say grants for North Vancouver organizations will help people access vital community services

NORTH VANCOUVER– New Democrat MLAs Bowinn Ma and Susie Chant say that people who receive services from local non-profits will benefit from funding to improve community health, accessibility and well-being.

“Local organizations have worked hard to ensure people in North Vancouver have access to important services like childcare, foodbanks, family services, mental health supports and more,” said Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “This funding will ensure vital organizations that have positively impacted generations of people in our community are able to continue to provide the programs and supports people need.”

“Here in North Vancouver, there are countless organizations that have made a positive impact on our community,” said Susie Chant, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour. “Each organization has worked to make sure people get the services they need and I’m excited to know that this funding will support them as they continue to make life better for people and keep our community resilient.”

This year, 35 organizations in North Vancouver received over $1.6 million in funding through the human and social services stream of the Community Gaming Grants program. Recipients include:

  • North Shore Neighbourhood House – Children, youth and family services, education, tutoring services, and more – $179,000
  • North Shore Women’s Centre Society – Education, tutoring services, emergency social services, and more – $77,800
  • BC Original Minds Association – Human and social services – $159,000

This year, the New Democrat government will distribute more than $61 million in grants to 1,364 human and social services organizations around B.C. This funding means people can continue to access services such as food banks, children and youth programs, mental health supports, and other services that enhance health and wellbeing.

Quick Facts:

  • Community Gaming Grants provides around $140 million annually to approximately 5,000 not-for-profit organizations that deliver services to people throughout the province.
  • In addition to human and social services, the grants fund arts, culture and sport, public safety and environmental conservation, as well as parent and district parent advisory councils in B.C. schools.
