CHILLIWACK – New Democrat MLAs Dan Coulter and Kelli Paddon say that emergency response and recovery efforts will be strengthened with funding for local emergency operations centres in Chilliwack.
“Flooding, fires and landslides are top of mind for people who live here, and we want to help them be as prepared as possible,” said Kelli Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent. “This funding will help communities fill gaps where needed in their emergency response planning, so they can be even more prepared if an emergency occurs.”
The following local governments are receiving funding in the Fraser Valley:
- Chilliwack, EOC Technology Upgrades – $29,400
- Fraser Valley Regional District, EOC and Training Information Officer Capability – $30,000
“Having up-to-date equipment and supplies at Emergency Operations Centres makes for better emergency response. This funding from our government for the City of Chilliwack will help our local EOC with important technology updates,” said Dan Coulter, MLA for Chilliwack.
Nearly $3 million in funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is going to over 100 local governments and First Nations across B.C. The funding will assist in purchasing and installing equipment and supplies to maintain or improve emergency operations centres.
Emergency operations centres are an essential part of emergency response, where representatives come together to co-ordinate actions and resources, and to support people responding on the ground.
