LANGLEY – New Democrat MLAs Megan Dykeman and Andrew Mercier say that funding will help ensure local fairs, festivals and events can provide fun and excitement for residents and visitors alike.
“Thunderbird is a world-class venue with some incredible equestrian events coming up this summer and fall,” said Megan Dykeman, MLA for Langley-East. “By supporting sporting events, we are ensuring that competitors and spectators alike will continue to visit Langley, which is great news for our local businesses.”
In Langley, 27 events are receiving over $625,000 in funding, including The Fort Langley Jazz Festival, The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival, The Sounds of Summer Concert Series, The Summer Fort Classic and the B.C. Open at Thunderbird Showpark.
“There is no shortage of opportunities to get out in the community this year for some amazing local events,” said Andrew Mercier, MLA for Langley. “Whether you’re looking for sports, arts, or gathering together for some good food, there is something for everyone, and I’m glad that we can support local events here in Langley and across the province.”
Across B.C., $15 million in funding will support 1114 fairs, festivals, and events in 2024 and 2025.
Since 2021, the BC New Democrat government has provided $80 million through the Fairs, Festivals, and Events Fund, helping event organizers to overcome ongoing challenges and ensure fun experiences are available for residents and visitors around the province.
